Watchung Borough School District Department of Special Services, in compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C. 6A:14), works collaboratively with district staff, parents and students to provide a free and appropriate public education to any student, age 3 to 14, residing in district and who is determined to be eligible for special education programs and/or services. Emphasis is placed on facilitating inclusion in general education settings to the fullest extent possible. Programs are assessed on an ongoing basis to ensure that students’ individual needs are met. A range of placement options are available in accordance with Individual Education Plans.
The Special Education Staff consists of Child Study Team case managers, related services providers, and educational consultants. Special Education Teachers support students in a continuum of special education programs. All programs and services are based on individual students needs as determined by each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Teachers, parents/guardians, counselors, and/or administrators may refer a student to the Child Study Team for evaluation.
