Dear Parents and School Community Members,
We are very excited to welcome back our students on Tuesday. As we move into the holiday weekend, I just want to share a few reminders with you.
First, as I mentioned at the board meeting and as the principals indicated in their welcome-back letters, because the first week of school is only four days long, there will be no remote Wednesday. Cohort A will attend in-person instruction on Tuesday and Wednesday. Cohort B will attend in-person instruction on Thursday and Friday. We will follow the same schedule the weeks of September 28 and October 12, when school is closed for Yom Kippur and Columbus Day, respectively.
As you prepare for the return to school, please reinforce at home the importance of following the health and safety protocols and make sure you complete the daily screening form for each of your children through Genesis. Remember, the most important thing parents can do to contribute to the safety of our community is to keep their children home, if they are sick. The three most important things we all can do in school are to watch our distance, wash our hands, and wear a face covering. To that end, kindly review this important information from the CDC about the proper use, removal, and washing of cloth face coverings or masks.
Based on guidance from the department of health, we have closed our water fountains. Thanks to the PTO’s generosity, we will have touchless water filling stations installed, but a delay in the supply chain has pushed this back to mid-October. So in the meantime, please make sure your child brings a full water bottle to school. We will have a supply of bottled water in the main office as a back-up plan, but this is intended only for children who forget their water bottle.
In addition, please make sure your child dresses comfortably for variable temperatures. We will be maximizing fresh air intake, and depending on the weather, this may lead to higher temperatures or increased humidity in the classrooms.
I also want to remind everyone of the district’s notice regarding the remote instructional program, which went into effect last March and remains in effect throughout the 2020-21 school year. You also can find it on the district website. Please review it before the first day of school. If you have questions, please email your child’s principal.
Also, the district’s Restart and Recovery Plan and hybrid model schedule remain on the district website, along with the revised 2020-21 school calendar. Please check the Bayberry and Valley View school webpages for school-specific information.
Last, the board of education meeting, originally scheduled for September 14, has been moved to Thursday, September 24 at 7:30 pm.
We are very pleased that we are able to welcome back our students on Tuesday. Things may not look the same, but the warmth and commitment of our staff will be a constant. The teachers and support staff have been working hard this week to ensure a smooth transition for the students.
