March 12, 2020
Dear Parents and School Community Members,
We want you to know that our number one priority continues to be the health and well-being of our students and staff. Though we currently have no confirmed cases of coronavirus in our district, as you know, we have been proactively preparing to continue instruction through distance learning. The NJDOE has advised that if we have a plan in place for consistent home instructional services while closed, the days would count toward our 180-day requirement.
Public health experts continue to recommend social distancing as the most effective strategy to contain the spread of COVID-19. We recognize that school closures will create challenges for our families and our community, but we also recognize our responsibility to address this public health crisis and keep our community safe. In an effort to meet this responsibility, we will be closing our schools and implementing a distance learning plan, effective Monday, March 16, 2020 through spring break. All field trips, school events, and activities are also postponed during this time. This will include the Valley View musical this weekend.
Additionally, the schools will follow their delayed opening schedules for all students on Friday, March 13, 2020, so teachers can continue their lesson preparation. Valley View will begin at 10:15 am and Bayberry at 10:45 am.
Details about the distance learning plan will follow. We will continue to assess the situation and maintain regular communication with our local public health official and our school community. In the meantime, if you have not responded to the survey on internet access, please take a minute to do so.
We appreciate your support and understanding of this decision. The board and administration will continue to work together to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation.
Very truly yours,
George P. Alexis
