 Office of the Superintendent

November 18, 2020

Dear Parents and School Community Members,

As winter nears and we prepare for the prospect of emergency closings for snow or possible COVID-19 reasons, we are undergoing the annual process of updating our notification system. On Thursday evening, a test notice will go out. It will include an email, text message, and phone call. Please follow the directions in the email for updating your contact information, if necessary. This test will serve as each school’s security drill for November, pursuant to state guidelines.

As I said last week, we have been extremely fortunate so far, thanks to everyone's vigilance and cooperation. We are very pleased that we have been able to keep our schools open for in-person instruction, but we also understand the reality that our circumstances could change without much notice. So let’s please continue to work together in following the health protocols to ensure our community’s safety.

With Thanksgiving just a week away, I am reiterating the information for families about the travel advisory and potential exposure reporting. Please remember that families are required to keep their children home for the 14-day quarantine period and advise their child’s school, if they travel to one of the states on NJ’s travel advisory list. In addition, a child who has been potentially exposed to the virus outside of school or been deemed a close contact must follow the 14-day quarantine, and the parents must notify their child’s school. We urge parents to be transparent when completing the screening forms, to reinforce safety protocols at home, and to keep their children home when sick.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding. We remain very grateful for your support.

Very truly yours,

George P. Alexis
Superintendent
